A Hacker News thread about Postman and AI plugins got a lot of attention. I wanted a way to look at my own config folders without trusting anyone: a script I can read in two minutes, with no dependencies and no network calls.

ai-plugin-peek is one Node file. It walks a folder (or the guessed default locations for Postman, Insomnia and Bruno) and lists file and folder names, and text file contents, that mention words like postbot, copilot, openai, anthropic, mcp, llm or claude. It only reads. Nothing is sent anywhere.

I created a folder with a postbot plugin directory, a settings file containing "copilot": true, and one harmless file:

$ node peek.js /tmp/fake scanning /tmp/fake DIR /tmp/fake/Postman/plugins/postbot MATCH /tmp/fake/Postman/settings.json ("copilot") 3 text files read, 2 match(es). Read-only; nothing sent anywhere. exit 1 Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode Exit code is 1 when something matches, 0 otherwise.
