AI coding tool prices, October 2026: no real price cuts, 4 billing-toggle traps, and 2 Google sunsets
I re-read 30 official pricing pages on 28 October 2026 and compared each starting price with the one we recorded earlier in the month (mostly 16–27 October). One honest caveat up front: this compares one dated read with another. It isn't a long-running price history. Cursor's switch to the Plus/Premium/Super/Ultra lineup happened before our first read, so it shows up below as "current state", not as a change we caught.
When a pricing page defaults to yearly billing, the per-month number shrinks. Here's how big that gap is:
If one tool shows its yearly figure and another shows its monthly one, the comparison is off by up to 40%. Check the toggle first.
Windsurf is Devin Desktop. Cognition renamed it on 2 June 2026. devin.ai/pricing lists Free $0, Pro $20/mo, Max $200/mo, and Teams at $80/mo plus $40/mo per full dev seat.
Cursor's lineup. cursor.com/pricing lists Free, Plus $8/mo (Grok models only), Premium $30/mo, Super $100/mo, Ultra $200/mo, and Teams from $30/user/mo. Claude, GPT and other third-party models start at Premium and are billed separately by usage. Cursor's docs call Pro, Pro+ and the old Teams seats "legacy Cursor plans".
Firebase Studio is sunsetting. New workspaces and signups were switched off on 22 June 2026. Existing workspaces work until 22 March 2027. Google's migration guide covers how to move projects out.
Gemini Code Assist. Since 9 October 2026, you can't buy new Standard or Enterprise subscriptions. Google's sunset doc points agentic coding to Antigravity.
Cline and Kilo Code. Cline is free for individuals, with usage-based or bring-your-own-key inference, and an optional ClinePass at $9.99/mo. Kilo Code's extensions are free and open source, with Teams at $15/user/mo and Kilo Pass from $19/mo.
Lowest paid plan as shown on each vendor's page:
