Anthropic is the “ Customer B ” that made up 34.5% of SpaceX’s third-quarter revenue, Bloomberg reports, overtaking the US government as its biggest client. Anthropic could spend up to $120.5B on SpaceX computing through 2029, but can cancel after early 2027.

Anthropic is SpaceX’s largest customer, accounting for more than a third of its revenue in the third quarter, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

SpaceX said in a filing last week that about 34.5% of its quarterly revenue came from one client. The filing named it only as “ Customer B, ” a buyer of computing power from its AI unit, now called Super Intelligence.

That makes Anthropic a bigger customer than the US government, long SpaceX’s main source of income. Anthropic declined to comment, and SpaceX did not respond, Bloomberg said.

Anthropic rents computing power at SpaceX’s data centres in Memphis, Tennessee. Its IPO filing shows it could spend up to $120.5B under contracts running to 2029, about $3.1B a month from December.

But Anthropic can cancel with 90 days’ notice after early 2027, leaving SpaceX heavily exposed to one client. The AI unit turned a profit for the first time last quarter, as SpaceX’s revenue rose 161%.

Musk has argued that SpaceX, with its Starlink and launch businesses, is safer than other neoclouds, firms that rent out AI computing, as lenders pull back.

“ Debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers, ” he wrote on X.

SpaceX also rents computing power to Google, which pays about $920M a month.
