Anthropic filed its public S-1 on October 26, kicking off the biggest IPO story in tech right now. The Claude maker wants to list Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market as "ANT" — but if you're reading the headlines, here's the context the filing actually provides.
The growth is real and dramatic. First-half 2026 revenue hit $16.286 billion, about 14 times the $1.163 billion from a year earlier. Full-year 2025 was $4.585 billion, and back in 2023 the company reportedly did just $41 million. More than 11,900 customers now spend $100K+ annually, and existing customers are spending roughly 9x more than last year.
Then there's the scary number: an $80.748 billion net loss. Look closer and $72.4 billion of it is a non-cash accounting charge on convertible notes and related instruments. The operating loss was $693 million, Q2 even posted a $974 million GAAP operating profit, and operating cash flow was positive $3.929 billion. The business itself is roughly breakeven — the giant loss is mostly paper.
What's missing: share count, price range, and date are all blank, to come in an amended filing. The registration isn't effective yet, so nothing can be sold. The roadshow can't start until mid-November at the earliest. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley lead roughly 20 banks, while a Founder LLC keeps 50.1% voting control — public investors get economics, not the steering wheel.
And the valuation chatter ($1.5–2 trillion in press reports)? Not in the filing. What is in the filing: up to $807 billion committed to data center and chip contracts over ten years, much of it non-cancellable. That's what the IPO money is really for.
