Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle Submission 💸

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle

CareerCraft AI is a web-based resume analysis tool designed to help students, freshers, and job seekers improve their resumes before applying for jobs.

Many applicants struggle to identify the right keywords for a job description and understand whether their resumes highlight the skills employers are looking for. CareerCraft AI aims to make this process easier through a simple, beginner-friendly interface.

The goal is to make resume preparation more accessible, especially for students and early-career professionals who may not be able to afford professional career coaching.

Students, fresh graduates, job seekers, and career development services could benefit from a more advanced version with AI-powered feedback, tailored improvement suggestions, and multiple resume analyses.

CareerCraft AI currently serves as a browser-based prototype, with AI-powered analysis planned as a future enhancement.

The project can also be run locally by opening index.html in a web browser.

The current version uses browser-based, rule-driven keyword matching. Integration with an open-source AI model is a planned next step.

The current prototype compares keywords in a resume against a target job description, calculates a match score, and identifies relevant terms that may be missing.

I chose a lightweight frontend approach to keep the project easy to run, understand, and contribute to.

AI integration is the next milestone. I plan to explore open-weight language models and open-source inference tools to provide contextual resume feedback, suggest improvements, and help users tailor their resumes to specific roles.

This would move CareerCraft AI beyond simple keyword matching toward more meaningful, AI-assisted career guidance.

Open innovation matters because career tools should be accessible to people regardless of their financial background.

Open-source technologies make it possible for developers to learn from existing work, experiment with different approaches, and build useful tools without starting from scratch. They also create opportunities for contributors to improve functionality, accessibility, privacy, and performance.

For CareerCraft AI, open innovation creates a path toward exploring open-weight models and self-hosted inference instead of depending entirely on a closed AI API.

It could also make the project easier to customize for different industries, educational institutions, and communities.

My goal is to keep CareerCraft AI approachable for beginners while building toward a more capable, transparent, and accessible career assistant.

Challenge: Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge — Week 2: Side Hustle

I'll confirm any additional partner prize categories after checking their eligibility requirements.

Thanks for checking out CareerCraft AI! 🚀

I'm excited to keep improving the project and explore how open-source AI can make career preparation more accessible.
