ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are in the top free 100 on the iPhone in at least 29 of 30 countries, and in the Google Play top 100 in at least 28. Where they rank in each is a different story. Five things to know, read from both stores' top free charts on 2026-10-29 (16:46 UTC for the iPhone, 16:49 UTC for Google Play) in 30 countries, from the United States and Germany to Nigeria and Vietnam.
On the iPhone top free chart, Claude was #1 in Germany, Spain and France, and in the top 5 in 14 of the 30 countries. ChatGPT was #1 in India and Nigeria and in the top 5 in 16. Gemini's best was #2, in Egypt, Spain and Poland. On Google Play, ChatGPT was #1 in 8 countries (Australia, Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, India, the Netherlands and Poland), Claude's best was #5 (France, the Netherlands) and Gemini's #9 (Italy).

Claude ranked higher on the iPhone than on Google Play in all 28 countries where it charted on both: a median of #6 against #29. Gemini did the same in 28 of 29, #6 against #30. ChatGPT is the one that does better on Android: a median of #3 on Google Play against #4.5 on the iPhone, higher on Play in 17 countries and level in 4. A rank in one store says little about the other.
"Gemini" in the title matched two iPhone apps in the same charts: Google Gemini ( 6477489729 ) and Gemini Notebook ( 6737527615 ), a second Google app. On Android, Google's Gemini is still com.google.android.apps.bard. ChatGPT is published by "OpenAI OpCo, LLC" on the iPhone and "OpenAI" on Google Play, so a developer-name match fails too. And a chart can be led by an app that is nowhere else: Muse from Meta was #1 on both stores in Canada, Japan and Singapore, #1 on Google Play and #2 on the iPhone in the United States, and in neither top 100 in the other 26 countries.
Google Play publishes no chart feed. Its web app reads the charts through its own RPC, which the Google Play top charts write-up walks through. The Play numbers above came from that, 100 apps a chart a country.
App Store Top Charts Scraper and Google Play Top Charts Scraper on Apify take a list of countries and a chart, and return every app with its rank, developer and price, and how far it moved since your previous run. Google Play rows carry the rating and installs; iPhone rows get the rating with includeDetails. The 30 countries above were one run of each: 3 minutes for the iPhone, 29 seconds for Google Play.
