Small businesses often have great products and services but struggle to market them effectively. Creating a business introduction, website copy, product descriptions, social media captions, and promotional messages takes time, effort, and sometimes money they cannot afford to spend.
I built LaunchMate AI, a small-business assistant that helps entrepreneurs turn basic information about their businesses into a practical starter marketing kit.
Users enter their business details, products or services, target audience, and brand tone. LaunchMate AI generates six types of content:
The goal is to help entrepreneurs move from having a business idea to having useful content they can edit and use to start promoting it.
Potential users include small-business owners, freelancers, independent creators, and first-time entrepreneurs. It could be useful to people who need a quick starting point for their marketing without immediately hiring a dedicated copywriter.
I built this project as part of my journey as a student developer exploring practical applications of open-weight AI models.

The live application allows users to enter business information and generate a complete set of starter marketing materials.

LaunchMate AI is open source under the MIT License. Developers can explore the implementation, adapt it for their own use cases, and contribute improvements.
I built LaunchMate AI using a lightweight web stack:
When a user submits the form, the frontend sends the business information to the Node.js backend. The backend constructs the model request, sends it to the Ollama Cloud API, processes the response, and returns the generated content to the frontend.
I kept the API key in server-side environment variables rather than exposing it in the browser or committing it to the public repository.
I also used Qoder as an AI-assisted development tool during implementation. The project was tested locally before being pushed to GitHub and deployed to Render.
One important design decision was to keep the application lightweight. I wanted to build something practical without requiring users to install a large model or requiring my development machine to download model weights. Ollama Cloud makes inference possible without running the model locally.
Open innovation made it possible for me to build and share a useful AI application while working with limited computing resources.
Using an open-weight model such as Gemma gave me an alternative to building the entire experience around a closed, proprietary model API. Through Ollama Cloud, I could access model inference without downloading and running the model weights on my computer.
Making the application open source also means that other developers can inspect the code, learn from the implementation, adapt the content-generation workflow, or extend it for specific business categories.
For example, someone could customise LaunchMate AI for bakeries, fashion businesses, restaurants, freelancers, or other small businesses with different marketing needs.
Open innovation is especially valuable for independent developers and students because it encourages learning, experimentation, collaboration, and reuse. A small project can become a starting point for something more useful when other people can build on it.
This version still relies on a hosted inference service and an internet connection. I would like to explore additional model options in the future, including local inference for users who have suitable hardware.
I would like to improve LaunchMate AI with better editing and export options, more business-specific templates, more resilient handling of slow model responses, and the ability to regenerate individual sections.
My goal is to make it easier for small-business owners to get started with marketing while keeping the tool simple and accessible.
If you try LaunchMate AI, I would love to hear what you think and what features would make it more useful for your business.
