This is my submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge — Week 3: Slow and Steady.
LazyDesk AI is a lightweight file-organization assistant designed to make digital cleanup less tedious.
Instead of manually opening files and sorting them one by one, users can upload a batch of supported text-based files and get a quick overview, identify exact duplicates, and generate a suggested organization plan.
The goal is simple: spend less time managing digital clutter and more time doing meaningful work.

LazyDesk AI is built with Python and Flask, with a responsive HTML/CSS interface.
The current version supports text-based files such as TXT, MD, CSV, JSON, and LOG. It uses file hashes to identify exact duplicates and rule-based classification to suggest categories and cleaner filenames. Users can export the suggested plan as a CSV.
Important: The current implementation uses rule-based logic; an AI model has not yet been integrated. I will describe the open-source model and inference approach here only after I implement and test them.
Open innovation gives developers the freedom to learn from existing tools, experiment with ideas, and build solutions without having to start from scratch.
For a project like LazyDesk AI, open-source tools make it easier to build a practical, approachable utility and improve it through community feedback. They also make the implementation easier for other developers to inspect, learn from, and extend.
The idea behind LazyDesk AI is that small automations can remove repetitive work from everyday life. Even a useful cleanup plan can make organizing files feel more manageable.
The app currently prepares suggestions rather than moving, renaming, or deleting files automatically, so users stay in control of their changes.
