Making a 30-Second Ad: Which AI Video Model Should You Choose?

For a 30-second ad, I wouldn’t start by buying the most expensive model. Look at what you already have. A product photo you want to animate? Footage that needs a different setting? The same person holding a product across several shots? Those are different jobs. For an ordinary product ad, I’d star

Look at what you already have. A product photo you want to animate? Footage that needs a different setting? The same person holding a product across several shots? Those are different jobs.

For an ordinary product ad, I’d start with real product photos, generate a few short clips, then edit them into 30 seconds. Don’t put all your hopes into one prompt generating the whole ad. Short clips let you redo just the part that isn’t working.

These are candidates based on official capabilities, not a quality ranking from personal tests. References add constraints; they don’t guarantee the product stays unchanged in every frame. Test one shot with your own product.

Without special requirements, start with Gen-4.5 image-to-video. Try Seedance if your person or product doesn’t carry across shots. If you already have footage, look at editing tools first. Don’t subscribe to five services at once.

Take a desk lamp. Choose one real benefit, such as lighting your work surface. One ad can focus on that.

Break sections into shorter shots as needed. Generate supported durations, then trim. Use real footage for the lighting comparison; product shape, labels and functions should match actual materials.

Add subtitles, logos, prices and purchase buttons in Jianying or your editor afterward. If you ask the model to draw them too, one wrong letter can force a regeneration. Record the voice-over separately so wording and timing are easy to adjust.

Don’t generate six clips before discovering the product deforms when someone holds it.

Pick the hard shot, such as “a hand turns the lamp toward camera.” Give two candidate models the same product image and request, and try each twice. Check shape, usable motion and repair effort. If it passes, make the other shots. If both attempts fail, simplify the action or add references before filling the prompt with “premium” and “cinematic.”

Don’t budget only for 30 seconds of finished footage. Six 5-second clips with three attempts each mean 90 seconds of paid generation. This is a budget assumption; shot counts and supported durations vary.

As of October 12, 2026, Runway’s developer platform lists Gen-4.5 at $0.12 per second. That example costs $10.80 for generation. This is that platform’s API calculation, not a subscription quote, and excludes voice-over, editing and other expenses.

If draft mode is available, use it to check framing and movement, then make the higher-quality version. Drafts can cost money too.

For your first ad, get three things right: the product stays correct, the benefit is clear, and viewers know where to buy. A more expensive model won’t do that planning for you.
