The change was announced on 29 October 2026 by Thibault Sottiaux ("Tibo"), who leads Codex and ChatGPT Work, in a post on X, after customer feedback over the planned reduction.

Nothing here is sponsored — no affiliate links on this page. Every fact below comes from reporting of the 29 October 2026 announcement by BleepingComputer, ghacks and xenospectrum. I have not tested these limits myself, and OpenAI does not publish exact numerical usage limits per tier — so this article states the doubling as OpenAI announced it and says plainly what cannot be verified. Where something is unconfirmed, I say so.

Pro 100 and Pro 500 allowances double. Work and Codex usage allowances on the $100-per-month Pro 100 plan and the $500-per-month Pro 500 plan are doubled, at the same prices. If you regularly hit your cap on Pro 100, you now get twice the room before hitting it — without moving to a more expensive tier.

The planned Pro 200 cut is cancelled. OpenAI had planned to reduce the included Work and Codex allowance for Pro 200 ($200 per month) subscribers — from 20x the Plus allowance to 10x Plus — and to cut GPT-6 Pro chat messages from 200 to 100 per week. That cut is now off the table. Instead, all Pro 200 subscriptions are levelled to the same allowance, so no Pro 200 subscriber is left on a reduced tier because of when they signed up.

Business Premium is included too. Business Premium subscribers get the same doubling of their Work and Codex allowance, at unchanged prices.

Prices do not change. Nothing in this announcement raises or lowers a subscription price. This is a limits change, not a pricing change — which is exactly why it landed so well with subscribers who had been bracing for less for the same money.

The weekly GPT-6 Pro message cap in regular Chat is unchanged. The doubling applies to ChatGPT Work and Codex usage. The separate weekly cap on GPT-6 Pro messages inside regular Chat stays exactly where it was. If you were counting those messages, keep counting the same way.

ChatGPT Plus limits are unchanged. Plus subscribers get nothing extra from this announcement. This is a Pro and Business Premium change only.

Dots keep their own, separate limits. Dots — OpenAI's always-on assistants — keep extended limits, and Dots usage stays separate from the Work and Codex allowance. Using a Dot does not draw from your doubled Work and Codex allowance, and the doubled allowance does not replace the Dots arrangement. Note the honest caveat from the reporting: OpenAI describes the extended Dots limits as continuing "for now", without saying how long they will stay in place.

The short version, in OpenAI's own framing, is customer feedback. The planned Pro 200 cut would have halved the Work and Codex allowance for the company's $200-a-month power users — the developers and heavy users most likely to notice, and most likely to complain loudly. The backlash was swift, and within the announcement window OpenAI did not just soften the cut — it cancelled it outright and doubled limits across the Pro range instead. That is a genuine reversal, not a rebrand of the same cut, and it is worth naming as such: subscribers pushed back, and the company moved.

It also fits a busy month for OpenAI pricing. Just a day earlier, OpenAI announced API credits for Pro and Business subscribers — a separate announcement, and one that should not be confused with this one. The API credits deal with API spending; this announcement deals with ChatGPT Work and Codex usage inside the subscription. They are two different pots, and neither extends the other.

The honest summary is this: Pro and Business Premium subscribers get more room where it counts — Work and Codex — at the same price, and the Pro 200 cut that sparked the backlash is dead. The parts OpenAI has not published, I have not filled in with guesses. If OpenAI publishes exact limits or changes them again, I will update this article.
