Here’s how these college students use Gemini to study for exams, organize their notes, knock out projects, and master new material.
Google Student Ambassadors shared 11 ways they use Gemini to study smarter and stay organized. You can use these tools to create custom study guides, practice for interviews with voice chat, and automate your research or scheduling. Try uploading your course materials to Gemini to turn your notes into interactive lessons and quizzes today.
College students have found all kinds of ways to use Gemini. It helps them learn better, track workouts, turn groceries into tasty meals, vibe-code portfolios — and then review them from a hiring manager’s point of view.
So we asked 15 Google Student Ambassadors to share their favorite Gemini features — and how they use them to study smarter, learn faster, produce better work, and stay organized.
Study notebooks turn your course materials into personalized, bite-sized lessons. “They make studying more manageable, especially right before finals when I have a semester’s worth of material to review,” says Beverlyn T., University of Southern California.
Students use study notebooks for everything from organizing daily coursework to finding themes within their notes. “Study notebooks have made refreshing my memory on 50-page papers before class so much faster,” says Nina R., University of California, Santa Barbara. “And if you upload competing viewpoints, you can quickly generate comparisons and master complex concepts.
Gemini Live lets you chat with Gemini using just your voice. “It’s my go-to for practicing interviews and presentations, because it lets me hear how my ideas actually sound,” says Skylar E., San Diego State University. Other students use it to talk through tough concepts on-the-go or practice speaking new languages before studying abroad.
You can also turn on your camera to show Gemini Live exactly what you’re looking at. “As a designer, I’m constantly learning new tools and software,” says Debbie C., The University of Texas, Austin. “When I get stuck using one, I can have Gemini Live walk me through it step-by-step.”
Guided Learning helps you build understanding instead of just giving you answers. “I paste in my work, and instead of asking for the fix, I let Gemini walk me toward what went wrong,” says Fehmaan K., George Mason University. “It asks me what I think happens at each step, and I usually catch my mistake before it tells me.”
Guided Learning asks open-ended questions to probe your understanding. “Resist asking for the answer when you get stuck mid-session,” Fehmaan adds. “Guess even when you’re unsure. Because getting corrected will stick with you more than reading an explanation.”
Gemini can turn your notes into ready-made study guides. “For courses where professors don’t provide exam overviews, this helps me review content and summarize what I need to know,” says Jamie C., University of Southern California.
You can upload course materials, like lecture slides or handwritten notes, and tell Gemini what to include. “I recommend dedicating a Google Drive folder to each class you’re taking and sharing that with Gemini,” Jamie adds. “That way, your study guide captures both the professor’s content and your interpretations.”
Want to check how well you understand a subject? Gemini can generate custom quizzes to help you prep for tests and exams. “Practice quizzes help me build confidence going into high-stakes tests,” says Shuang P., New York University. “Many of my grades depend entirely on exams, so having access to extra practice questions is critical.”
When teachers provide practice tests without answer keys, some students use Gemini quizzes to check their work — and understand the logic behind each question. “It helps understand what questions I might miss or misinterpret,” says Tobi U., University of California, Riverside.
Gemini student plans give you unlimited uploads of class materials, study notebooks, interactive visualizations, and images in general. “This really helps me provide context in my notes,” says Chaeyeon H., Boston University. Say you want to reference something like a homework assignment, lecture slide, historic artifact, or work of art. “Whether it’s a physical object or something on my screen, I can easily snap and upload a photo,” says Nicole F., University of California, San Diego.
Other students use the feature before submitting work, uploading their draft and the assignment rubric to double-check that they’ve met every requirement.
With Audio Overviews, you can create podcast-style conversations from documents, slides, and more. “I rely on Audio Overviews to get in last-minute review sessions while walking across campus,” Nina says. “This lets me absorb things conversationally and take active notes while listening.”
Students say Audio Overviews are especially handy for more thoroughly exploring class materials and topics. “I like to upload articles with conflicting viewpoints. The hosts naturally argue both sides of the issue,” says Parikshit M., Rutgers University.
Nano Banana, Gemini’s image generator, can help you visualize any idea and design anything. “As a creative, I’ve found image generation models helpful, especially when formatting images and sharpening details,” says Nelson G., Morehouse College.
Students are using it outside the classroom, too. “I often get overwhelmed when designing graphics,” Beverlyn says. “I love using Gemini to create club flyers and social media posts. It turns my ideas into eye-catching visuals tailored closely to my style.”
With Gemini in Chrome, you can get assistance directly in your browser. “It makes reviewing wrong answers on exams so much more efficient, because I don’t have to copy and paste them into a Gemini chat,” says Megan J., University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
It’s also great for deciphering complex documents. “I can get context without opening a new tab and losing my place,” Fehmaan says. “I recommend using it for ‘What does this specific sentence mean?’ — the narrow questions are where it saves the most time.”
Deep Research can automatically browse up to hundreds of websites, think through its findings, and create multi-page reports in minutes. Plus, you can talk through the findings on the go with Gemini Live.
“It saves me so much time by compiling exhaustive market analyses and literature reviews,” says Annitha K., San Diego State University. “I like to use Gemini to brainstorm a tightly structured research prompt and then feed that into Deep Research.”
Connecting Gemini to other apps — like Google Drive, Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Sheets — can help you stay organized. “I have Gemini reference class syllabi in my Drive, find every assignment and due date, and organize them in my Calendar,” Skylar says. “Before winding down, I have Gemini log all my tasks in a master tracking Sheet so I start each morning organized,” says Aaryaman B., Michigan State University.
It can also help you stave off inbox chaos. “As a TA for a class, I never want emails from my students to get lost,” Megan says. “Gemini helps me find messages I need to respond to or follow up on, saving time and helping me be a more present educator.”
