This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine
For Week 4's "Ghost in the Machine" theme, I built The Haunted Terminal 鈥攁 lightweight local Python script that intercepts your shell commands and uses an open-weight model running entirely offline to inject spooky, dramatic, or cryptic commentary right into your terminal workflow. Whenever you run standard commands like git status or rm -rf, the "ghost" wakes up to whisper eerie observations about your code, treating your terminal history like a digital s茅ance.
I wanted something that ran completely locally without relying on paid or closed cloud APIs.
Building this as an offline, open-source tool unlocked capabilities that a closed API simply couldn't touch:
The inspiration came from the eerie feeling of late-night coding sessions, where staring at a flashing cursor in a dark room makes your codebase feel alive. Hearing the terminal whisper back when you type a risky command adds just the right touch of Halloween atmosphere to your development environment!
