Children across Asia are growing up with AI assistants in their pockets, homework apps, and family devices. Many of these systems are designed to be helpful and agreeable, and that's often good. But it raises a question worth discussing as parents and educators: what does a child learn from a conversation partner that almost never says no?
The concern. Healthy development involves friction: being told "that's not right," waiting, hearing a different opinion, negotiating. A tool tuned to please can remove some of that friction. The risk isn't that AI is "bad," but that children may start expecting every conversation to go their way, or may accept confident answers without checking them.
I'd love to hear real experiences from parents and teachers here. If it's useful, I've put more resources at https://jarvisosorio.com/compliant-mind/.
