If you've ever asked an image model for a poster and got back "OPEN SATURDYA" in beautiful lettering, you know text rendering is where most generators still fall apart. ByteDance's Seedream line is interesting because each release made a visible jump on exactly this problem. Here's what I've learned using it for product mockups, and what I'm watching for in Seedream 6.

Diffusion models learn pixels, not glyphs. A word is just a texture that happens to correlate with the prompt. Short, common words ("SALE", "OPEN") render fine; long or unusual strings drift letter by letter. Two things help:

The Seedream releases map nicely onto those two levers.

Based on the trajectory, the things I'd expect next are consistency across a series of images (same label, same layout, different angles), finer layout control, and a tighter handoff from still image to short video.

I've been keeping notes, version comparisons and release tracking at Seedream 6, where you can also try the current Seedream models online.

What's the worst text-rendering failure you've gotten from an image model? Drop it in the comments.
